The 2012 Summer Olympics have been completed. We each have great athletic moments in our memories. Memories of records broken and dreams fulfilled. We want to channel all that positive energy into our lives, but we resume our regular every-day activities and over time the excitement fades. After an event of great excitement there is often a let-down because it can be challenging to make the transition from great excitement to routine smoothly. Our previous routine seems to look less exciting than it did before or the fact that we weren’t thrilled about what we were doing before is more clear to us. That same feeling can happen when we start implementing a healthy eating routine. How can we keep the positive energy flowing?
Setting healthy eating goals is important to me, because when I set those goals I have a specific purpose. That purpose is to have the energy to do all the things I want to do with my life. By being clear with yourself about why you want to have a healthy routine will keep you excited about the routine itself. As you move between one goal and the next enjoy the new things you can do as you achieve each goal. You will find yourself not slipping back into old patterns because you are enjoying new activities. You will also have a boost starting you off toward your next goal because you know achieving that goal will enable you to do more of what you want to do. Healthy eating is a means to an end, not necessarily an end in itself. While you may not feel the peak of excitement all the time you will begin to feel fulfilled as you do more and more of what you want with your life.
Take some time today to think about what developing healthy eating habits will do for your life. See how knowing what you want to do will push you to build those healthy new habits. Let me know in the comments below what your goals are. I would love to hear them.
