What To Do When I Fall Off the Healthy Eating Wagon?

by Frances on October 10, 2012

Building new healthy eating patterns can be challenging. Some days go smoothly and other days not so smoothly. Why does it look so easy for someone else? What can each of us do when we stumble? The keys to a successful change in habits include having a clear vision of our objective, a specific plan for getting there, and support along the way. I have talked about objectives and plans in other posts so today I am going to focus on support.

It is odd that often when we start to make changes in our lives the people around us seem to discourage instead of support us. Often this happens because our family and friends don’t like to see us struggle and they think they can save us some trouble by stopping us when the going gets tough. Sometimes it happens because they don’t understand our reasons for wanting to change our eating habits. Perhaps they have some of the habits we are trying to change and they are not ready to change themselves. Where do we go for support if the people close to us are not encouraging us?

We need to go look for people who share our goals. People who are also making changes and understand the struggles we are having. People who are slightly further along the path and can give us insights for overcoming our own challenges. Do research, ask questions, make adjustments to your plan, and remember we all stumble every now and then. This blog is a place where you can find support along your path to develop healthy eating habits.

I am a 49 year old mother to a 6 year old son. I have chronic fatigue and wondered when he was born if I would be able to keep up with him as he grew. I currently manage my chronic fatigue symptoms through diet, exercise, and healthy supplements. Maintaining healthy eating habits is critical to maintaining a healthy weight and keeping a steady energy level that enables me to be the wife and mother my family needs. There are definitely days that I struggle to stay on track with healthy meals and exercise but the reward of enjoying life with my family helps pull me through. I enjoy offering support and encouragement to others like me who want to have the energy to be active with family and friends.

Where do you look for support for your healthy eating habits? Would love to hear from you on facebook or in the comments below.
